TCF chat line:
The Compassionate Friends Chat Community is looking for people to volunteer to assist grieving family members seeking grief support on the Internet.
We have daily (primarily evening) chats that we moderate.
The way we do this is to listen to what the bereaved are saying and give them feedback and validation in the form of words of encouragement. We seek to remind them that we are not alone in this awful grief.
We do not judge anyone coming to us for support (just as we don't in our meetings). We allow them to talk, we encourage them to share their feelings, and we try to keep things on track. We offer reassurance to those who feel they're going 'crazy,' and we offer hope for tomorrow to those who have misplaced theirs today.
Hours: One hour a week
Experience: Must be a Compassionate, Supportive, Understanding, and Non-Judgmental Person. TCF Members who understand the underlying principles of The Compassionate Friends preferred.
Job Title: Compassionate Friends Chat Moderator.
Compensation: Knowing you are helping others who need our help. Plenty of Cyber Hugs.
Areas Most Needed: West Coast Moderators
Spanish Speaking Moderators
General Bereavement Co-Moderators
If you are interested in assisting us in our Mission to help these people, please contact the National site.

Ashley's Dad - Singer and Songwriter
Hi, my name is Alan Pedersen, a fellow bereaved parent. I am a singer and a songwriter who will be touring the country this summer playing and speaking for grief organizations and chapters of The Compassionate Friends. I will be traveling from my home in Denver, Colorado to the National Conference in Boston between June 18th and July 15th and will also be a part of the International Gathering on Grief in Vancouver, Canada and will be on the west coast in August.
I would like to fill in my schedule by performing house concerts for my fellow Compassionate Friends along the way, I will be traveling through your area and would love to play for you. There is no better way to honor my precious angel Ashley than by sharing our journey of grief through music with other bereaved parents. I released a CD of music at the Atlanta National Conference of The Compassionate Friends in July of 2003, and have just finished a book titled, "Growing Through Grief", (learning to live love and laugh again after loss.)
My mission this summer is to play as many house concerts as possible, both large and small. I am open to all types of events, from small informal living room gatherings to churches and meeting halls etc. I do not charge anything to host a concert or to those who attend these concerts. I do allow folks to donate if they would like and also sell my book and CD as a means of support.

A Silent Sorrow Pregnancy Loss: Guidance and Support. Long considered the 'bible" for families seeking emotional and practical support following a pregnancy loss...the authors offer important advice and new information about coping.....
"A SILENT SORROW speaks powerfully with practical advice and penetrating understanding of the suffering, loneliness, and despair of pregnancy loss. It's a valuable resource for those who work with the bereaved and a comforting companion to those grappling with their own sorrow."
-Rabbi Dr. Earl A. Grollman
You may order A SILENT SORROW from SHARE at 1-800-821-6819, or directly from the publisher at 1-800-634-7064, or online through amazon.com.
A personal message from Perry-Lynn Moffitt, co-author:
A Silent Sorrow was indeed a labor of love, a way of turning my sadness and anger into something positive that could help others. This is the true legacy of the babies I lost. As I have often said, I am sorry whenever I hear of families who have suffered a pregnancy loss, but I am grateful that my book is there for them.
I do not have a website, but I have a recommendation for one and a situation under which I can be contacted directly by e-mail.
The web site I'm recommending is for the Pregnancy Loss Support Program I have worked with for the past 20 years. It is a non-sectarian program affiliated with the National Council of Jewish Women, NY Section, and it offers immediate phone counseling for grieving parents. We also run peer support groups facilitated by professionally trained lay counselors, such as myself. Here's a complete listing:

You probably have contact with parents who have chosen to end their pregnancy following prenatal testing which revealed a severe problem with the baby. If they would appreciate a referral in the New York metropolitan area, I run support groups with a psychotherapist colleague, Joann Paley Galst, Ph.D. I've attached a copy of our flyer (it is in flyer layout form, so it can be printed on both sides and folded into thirds) so you can see a statement of our goals in helping this very underserved group of grieving parents. If you would like to have actual folders, I will be happy to mail some to you. In the meantime, please feel free to list our groups as The Painful Choices in Pregnancy Support Groups.
Hope this is helpful for you and the many parents who benefit from the good work you are doing throughout the bereaved community.
Sincerely,
Perry-Lynn Moffitt
